Serving Others - Ex Homeless Man

I met a 56 year-old guy today who has now devoted his life working full-time in a homeless shelter so he can help others and inspire them to better their lives through his life story. Just 3 years ago, he was hooked on crack and other drugs living on the streets. 20 years of his life was spent homeless and in prison 3 different times. He told me that one day, he decided that he needed to learn how to ask for and accept help.
This decision was tough because he never wanted to admit he needed help. Also, he never wanted to open up and share his feelings with anyone else. He would keep bad thoughts in his head and they would get the best of him. He was happy to share with me that he is open to talking to others about his feelings and has a good support system of people who love and look after his well-being. One day at a time has led him to where he is today. I asked, what motivated him during these 20 years to have hope and want to enjoy life. He said "that's a good question, I really don't know?" What he did know is that he believes God has a plan for him and that God never gave up hope on him.
