Promote Music Appreciation

You don't need to be a talented musician to cultivate music appreciation among children, although any musical skills you have are very welcome. Here are some opportunities to help spread the sound of music among young people.
  • Global Crossroad participates in a project in Brazil at the Center for Music Education in Olinda. All you need is an interest in music, although this project is ideal for anyone who is musically gifted.
  • Travellers Worldwide is in great need of volunteers to teach music in several schools in Ghana. If you can play any instrument, you are encouraged to apply.
  • Children at an orphanage in Bolivia are in need of volunteer music lovers. Whether you play an instrument or just love music, you are welcome to volunteer and work alongside a professional music teacher for as little as two weeks.
  • A community project in Jamaica is in need of volunteer music teachers for children aged 6 to 18 to play the keyboard, guitar, violin, flute, and drums. You should be able to teach children how to play one or more of these instruments. If you have at least two weeks, then welcome to Jamaica.
  • The Music & Culture Project in Senegal offers volunteers an opportunity to work alongside a local band with talented musicians. You will learn about traditional instruments and the music, the musicians, and their inspirations.
Cultivating music appreciation among children is an opportunity that keeps giving and growing long after you and other volunteers have left the children and the assignment behind. Once the seeds of music are planted, they live on in the hearts and minds, across time, across borders.
